Back to Reality & Stepping Into Your Zone

You may have found in the past that when you have returned to your ‘normal reality’ from a holiday or amount of time away from your business that you have felt a little flat, unmotivated or unfocused.  I believe this is normal and in a sense, going on the holiday has been a goal that we have worked towards and achieved.  When we achieve the outcomes of our goals and the experience diminishes we can feel ‘flat’ and be left with the question of ‘now what’?

When the ‘now what’ arises it’s a good time to reflect and set new goals that will give you forward purpose and direction.

Having just returned to ‘reality’ from a months holiday overseas I’ve certainly been feeling a tad ‘unfocused’ and ‘flat’ this week and not in my normal ‘zone’. I have future goals to work on and still the ‘flat feeling’ is there, so to help me get back into the zone I’ve been using a little 5 step NLP exercise and it’s really helped me to refocus, re-energise and get my brain back into gear.

I thought I’d share this exercise with you, I’ve been using it daily and have got immense value from it.  You can use this excercise for focus, for getting back into your zone and for experiencing more flow in your business and in your life.  Maybe like me you have just returned from holiday and need to refocus or maybe you just need a little boost, best of all you can have this for free and it’s there any time you need it.

Stepping Into The Zone

Step 1: Make yourself comfortable, relax and close your eyes.

Step 2: Now remember times you have been in states of flow, seeing what you saw, hearing what you heard, feeling how good you felt.

..this will kick start the flow state inside of you..

Step 3: Now amplify it: make the pictures you are seeing bigger, brighter, bolder, the sounds you’re hearing louder, the feelings you’re feeling stronger, and then ‘anchor’ the state squeezing your thumb and index finger together (squeeze hard when the flow state within you is strong, release your thumb and finger when the flow state within you diminishes).

Step 4: Now repeat steps 1-3 again, see what you saw, hear what you heard, feel how good you felt.

Step 5: Now find another time when you experienced the flow or focus, being in the zone and go through the procedure again, seeing what you saw, hearing what you heard, feeling what you felt, until you only have to squeeze your thumb and finger together to go into your flow/zone state.

* This exercise takes practice and can be used to experience any state: happiness, confidence, relaxation etc.  NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming or as I like to call it Brain Language Programming and the above exercise is known as ‘State Anchoring’.
